Selection Guide for Line Marking Machines

Whether you're starting a home building project or doing something on a larger scale, you have to keep a lot of different elements in mind. You have to think about the quality of the contractors you hire, the environmental impact of the materials you select, and the building processes that are used in the project. You also have to think about time and budget constraints. That can be overwhelming, but this blog is here to shoulder some of the burden. My name is Jonathon, and I've been there. I decided to start this blog to provide tips and ideas for others who are dealing with the stresses of planning, starting or managing a construction project.

Whether you need to mark lines on a driveway, car parking lot, playground, tennis court or soccer pitch, it is critical that you choose a line marking machine that's right for your application. If you have no previous experience in line marking, however, selecting the best machine for your particular job might not be an easy task, especially because there are so many line marking machines available on the construction market for you to choose from.

Follow this guide to ensure you select the most appropriate machine for your line marking project.

Consider the type of surface that needs to be line marked.

Not all line markers are designed to be used on all types of surfaces. Some are designed to be used on hard surfaces like asphalt driveways and tennis courts, while others are built to work on soft ground such as natural turf sports and athletics surfaces. So be sure to consider the nature and type of surface you will be line marking when you are selecting a machine for your application.

Consider the type of line marking paint you will need.

There are different types of paint products you can use for your line marking, including water-based, solvent-based, thermoplastic, epoxy and rubber paints. The type of paint product you need to use will determine your choice of equipment, as every paint product has a machine specifically designed for its use.

Consider the desired work speed.

Line marking machines provide different paint spreading rates. Your choice of work equipment will be influenced by the desired work speed, which will in turn determine the spreading rate of the equipment you will need. To choose an appropriate machine for your line marking, make sure to consider the size or area of the surface you will need to work on.

Consider the operation style.

Line marking machines are available as walk-behinds, ride-ons and truck-mounted units. Your choice of an appropriate machine will be based upon what operation style is suitable for your job. If you are line marking a relatively small area, a walk-behind line marker can fit the bill, but if you need to mark lines over a larger area, a ride-on or truck-mounted machine would be required.

By following the tips above, you stand a good chance at getting the best line marker for your specific job. But you can always consult your line marking professional if you're unsure about what type of machine you should use.
